At the start of 2020 each of our branches were set the task to organise a charity fundraising event. The choice of event and charity will be decided by the branch. The challenge must be completed as a whole team with the aim of raising as much money as possible.
First up is our fantastic Newent team who will be taking part in the 'Warrior Mud Run 10K' in the Forest of Dean. They will be raising money for Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity.
Maria’s husband, Terry was diagnosed with CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) in 2006, his long-term prognosis would require the likelihood of kidney dialysis and the need of a kidney transplant. His journey commenced with regular outpatients’ appointments to Gloucester Royal Hospital with careful monitoring to try to control and prolong the inevitable. Terry was also later referred to Southmead Hospital to be placed onto the kidney transplant waiting list
To an end when his kidneys were at a Stage 5 End Stage, he had no choice but to start kidney dialysis, Terry went onto dialysis in October ’16 at the Cotswold Unit. This was a vital part of Terry’s treatment and he attended the unit three times a week for 15 months, until he received that long-awaited telephone call from Southmead Hospital with an offer of a kidney. The kidney was a good match and the operation went well; the family have just celebrated a two-year anniversary.
Good luck Team Newent! This is going to be a challenging event for a great cause.
