Dimensions: 35m long, 8.5m wide, 3m draft.
Built as LV14 in 1958 for the Humber Conservancy Board and was located at the shipping lane entrance to the Humber until 1985. Then became a museum ship at several locations around the UK and Ireland. Also used as a club-house for a yacht club in Guernsey.
She was converted and restored by the current owners over a period of 3 years and brought to Gloucester in 2010.
She is a registered historic vessel and recognised as one of the best restored and preserved lightships in the UK.
SULA is unique because:

The ship has two holding tanks: one 15-ton grey-water tank with submersible pump, and a separate 15-ton black-water tank with on-deck connection for vacuum-trucks. A new central heating system was professionally installed in 2010 with a high-efficiency condensing oil-fired boiler and high capacity hot-water cylinder. On the top deck, a 1200-lt double wall heating-oil tank is installed. The lightship benefits from a permanent drinking water supply (through CRT), electrical power and telecoms cable (through BT). Telephone, TV and CAT5 network connection throughout.
Electricity supply (240VAC 80A single phase) and is metered through the CRT. Designed, installed and certified in 2010 to the 17th edition of the Wiring Regulations. On the aft deck, a 6KW 240VAC diesel generator (Lister) is installed as back-up. Equipped with a new intruder alarm, an eight-camera CCTV system and a fire detection/alarm system. Portable foam fire extinguishers are installed throughout the ship.
Water connection and is designed as a typical pressurised system. Warm water is provided with a big HW-Cylinder heated by the oil-fired condensing boiler unit.

Access to the aft deck and has both traditionally looking CH radiators and a solid-fuel stove installed. It provides access to the bedrooms via a staircase. Telephone, TV and CAT5 network connection.
Gallery Kitchen (2.8 x 2.5)
Re-fitted with custom made teak cabinets and a Corian worktop. A modern induction hob, a large stainless-steel sink and a separate vegetable washing basin with food macerator complete the worktop area. There are several electrical sockets. Built -in appliances to build-in to include dishwasher, fridge, separate freezer and electrical oven/grill combination.
Large deck area (55m2), both on the main deck and on top of the super-structure. Some of this is used as seating area for the café. Additional 25m2 on top of the superstructure. Wooden tables and seats are installed to accommodate the customers with a unique view on the canal and surroundings.
The light is completely restored and has a working revolving lens system, attracting many visitors to the lightship. Access to the tower is by means of an enclosed ladder from the hallway.
Restoration is in progress and has the original steering wheel, compass holder and brass clock-work for the fog-horn which is installed on top of the wheel-house. A large air-receiver on deck in front of the wheelhouse can be used to sound the foghorn manually. The sides of the wheelhouse have been completely re-plated and the windows modified to prevent water ingress. A door to the deck and a hatch to the hall below provides for access.
