First registered as a dwelling in 1987, this home is part of a former mill that worked in conjunction with five other local cloth mills. From the 1870’s Leonard Stanley House in Beards Mill was predominantly used for “picking and dyeing”. Cloth was produced in Eastington and was carried along footpaths, built with boiler ash, through the Frome-side meadows to Beards Mill for dyeing and potentially mending. This continued until approximately 1906, when the mill was closed. The mill was then not used commercially again, and the main mill was destroyed in 1908. The mill house and some of the surrounding cottages and old dye houses within the hamlet were converted into dwellings.
